Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 January 2026. We keep things simple — here is exactly what data Impostor collects and why.
Information we collect
When you play Impostor, we collect only what is necessary to run the game session. This includes the display name you choose, the avatar seed you select, and temporary session tokens stored in your browser's local storage. We do not require an email address, phone number, or any personally identifiable information to play.
How we use your information
Your display name and avatar are shared with other players in the same game room so everyone can identify who is speaking. Session tokens are used solely to authenticate your actions during gameplay (submitting words, voting). We do not sell, rent, or share this data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage to remember your preferred language and session token between page refreshes. We do not set tracking cookies. If third-party advertising (such as Google AdSense) is enabled on this site, those providers may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your browser settings or via the Google Ad Settings page.
Third-party services
This site may use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. We may also use analytics services (such as Google Analytics) to understand aggregate usage patterns. These services collect anonymised data such as pages visited and time on site.
Data retention
Game sessions are ephemeral. Player names, submitted words, and vote records are deleted automatically when a room is closed or after a short inactivity period. We do not store long-term user profiles.
Children's privacy
Impostor is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Because we collect minimal data and do not maintain user accounts, most requests can be satisfied simply by clearing your browser's local storage. For any other requests, please contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
