What is Impostor?

Impostor is a free online social deduction party game. One player is secretly the Impostor — they don't know the round's secret word. Everyone else (the Citizens) tries to give hints about the word without being too obvious, while the Impostor tries to figure it out and blend in. At the end, all players vote to eliminate who they think is the Impostor.

How many players do you need to play?

You need at least 3 players to start a game, and you can have up to 20 players in a single room. The sweet spot is 5–10 players for the most fun and tension.

How do you win as a Citizen?

Accepted Answer

Citizens win by correctly identifying and voting out the Impostor at the end of the discussion phase. Give subtle hints about the secret word — enough to show you know it, but not so obvious the Impostor figures it out and blends in perfectly.

How do you win as the Impostor?

Accepted Answer

The Impostor wins if the Citizens fail to vote them out, or if they can guess the secret word before being eliminated. Listen carefully during the discussion — the Citizens will unknowingly reveal clues.

Do I need to create an account?

Accepted Answer

No. There are no accounts, logins, or downloads required. Just enter your name, pick an avatar, create a room, and share the code with your friends. It works entirely in your browser.

How long does a game take?

A single round takes about 5–10 minutes. The discussion phase has a 3-minute timer. You can play multiple rounds back-to-back — the host can start a new game from the results screen.
